Athens Technical College uses Simple Syllabus by Simple Higher Ed as our syllabus management system. This cloud-based program allows faculty to create digital syllabi that students can access from within their Blackboard course.

The solution articleSimple Syllabus Overview, briefly describes our process for publishing syllabi.

All syllabi are built in three layers:

  • Level-1: College-wide
  • Level-2: Master Syllabi
  • Level-3: Course Syllabus

After the Level-1 college-wide information is added, the syllabi are made available to program and department chairs to begin adding the Level-2 information.

Level-2 is the program/department master syllabus. Any information added to this level will be added to all course sections (Level-3). Therefore, it is important to add information relevant to all courses. Only program/department chairs have access to Level-2 master syllabi. Any corrections or additions to Level-2 should be submitted to the program/department chairperson or division dean.

Program/department chairs access the Simple Syllabus by clicking the app in OKTA.

The sections edited by the program/department chairperson for Level-2: Master syllabi are listed below.

Section
Level-2Notes
Student Learning Outcomes2The SLOs for all TCSG courses are in the KMS Curriculum database: https://kms.tcsg.edu. These outcomes are copied/pasted to the syllabus.
Required Textbooks2All sections of the course use the same textbook. Students will find the title, edition, ISBN, and any other identifying information. If no textbook is required, a statement about where the students will find the learning materials (publisher/OER website, documents within the course, etc.).
Required Software2If there is any software required in this course, the chairs will list it in this section.
Grade Distribution Categories and Weights2The categories and weights used for grading will be calculated using a percentage-based gradebook. All sections of the course will use the same weights to calculate the overall grade.
Work Ethic Grades2This section is added on Level-1. However, not all courses give Work Ethic Grades. If this section doesn't apply to the course, make it invisible in the syllabus.
Lab Management Plan / Lab Procedures 2This section will not appear if left blank.
Program Policies2This section is available for chairs to add any program-wide policies that apply to the course.
Course Policies2This section is available for chairs to add any course policies that apply to all sections (CRNs).

After all this information is added to the syllabus, the program or department chairperson submits the changes to the division dean for review and approval. Once approved, the instructor can begin adding the Level-3 information. The final document is created as each person adds information to their section.
