Athens Technical College uses Simple Syllabus by Simple Higher Ed as our syllabus management system. This cloud-based program allows faculty to create digital syllabi that students can access from within their Blackboard course.
The solution article, Simple Syllabus Overview, briefly describes our process for creating and publishing syllabi.
All syllabi are built in three layers:
- Level-1: College-wide
- Level-2: Master Syllabi
- Level-3: Course Syllabus
Level 1 is where college-wide information is added. College administrators add important information that applies to all courses and students. Some information is pulled from Banner, some is typed in, and most links redirect to our college catalog. Corrections or additions can be requested by submitting a Blackboard Support Request from OKTA. Changes, editing, and additions to level-1 appear in all syllabi.
Level-1 sections of the college-wide template are listed below. Each statement section is an introduction to the section. Most statement sections are followed by a level-2 or level-3 section where faculty can add specific information or directions that pertain to their course.

After all the Level-1 information is added to the syllabus, the program or department chairperson can begin adding the Level-2 information. Then, the instructors add Level-3 information. The final document is created and published for students after each person has finished adding the required information to their section, and it is then approved by the division dean.
